The Global Cooperation and Training Framework held an international workshop entitled Defending Democracy through Countering Disinformation in Italy June 13, investigating effective mechanisms for countering disinformation with participants from Taiwan, the United States, Italy and the European Union.
Jointly organized by Taipei Representative Office in Italy and the U.S. embassy and consulates in Italy, the workshop was the first GCTF event to take place in Italy. About 100 people including politicians, academics, government officials and NGO staff participated in the workshop.
Taiwan’s Representative in Italy, Yun-chung Tsai, the U.S. Embassy in Italy’s Chargé d'Affaires Shawn Crowley and Italy’s EU Policies Committee Chair, Giulio Terzi di Sant’Agata, cohosted the opening ceremony.
Executive Yuan Minister without Portfolio, Lo Ping-cheng and Italian Parliament Senator, Lucio Malan, also gave keynote speeches, together with speakers from the public and private sectors. The event emphasized the importance of countering disinformation through international cooperation.
The MOFA said GCTF was established by Taiwan and the U.S. in 2015 as a major platform for likeminded countries to share experience in various sectors. The GCTF has supported activities and events in countries and regions including, among others, Africa, the Asia-Pacific, the Caribbean, Europe, the U.S. and Taiwan. (POC-E)
